Camping / Hiking

futab 71/365
The summer is almost over; we took our annual family vacation to the Sierras in June, as scout camp is coming up in August (!) next week...
We were in the mountains for two weeks and had a fun time fishing 7/8 for 2008 70/365
and running around swimming, hiking and lounging...
3 weeks after camping, Devyn, Trebor, Eliel and I (Pryce had to work) went on a 20 mile hike up Baden-Powell Mountain via Little Jimmy Camp, here is a conglomeration of the myriad of switchbacks we hit.
Switchbacks!
it was the toughest hike I think I have been on, simultaneously running out of water for the first time and it was a hike that was almost as much uphill each way!
Jennifer and the kids are camping for the week before scout camp, so we'll check in then...

Landscaping, Vacation, and Canning

So the end of another week and almost another school year. We are currently re-building/re-landscaping/re-destroying the yards before we leave for vacation, so if anyone has any extra building materials (concrete, irrigation piping, sand, amendments) that are surplus and you are going to be getting rid of them, let us know.
berris2The canning date is coming up soon, so if you're interested in topping off your storage, updating, or otherwise starting food storage, let us know asap. Jen started canning boysenberries that she got from the Morris' Garden, Bobbi Morris and Tanya Groves help on how to seal up the jars. We have enough jam and jellies now for a year.

Food Storage

Jen was working over the weekend down at the new "Americana" in Glendale (Caruso's new mall) and now were back to home preps. We are updating our food storage, removing the rats nest behind the #10 cans, removing the 10+ year expired stuff and wondering; Where is all of this supposed to end up being stored?!

So we are thinking of doing a small addition to add a pantry and enlarge the dining room. The snowball effect is in full force here, as this will lead to the yard, a pool, patio, driveway, new paint, a skylight, RV access, new roof, spa, fallout bunker, ferris wheel, ...

Out of the gate!!

Since Rob believes he'll be the only one contributing to the blog, I will prove him wrong. For those of our friends who have blogs, thanks for the inspiring conversations at those"baby showers." It will be interesting to see where we, the Herr family, go with all this.

For now, the day has started and yet is nearly over. Nothing accomplished, but did I expect anything too? Running around picking kids up and dropping kids off, hopefully without hurting anyone. Scouts and Family History Center is our Tuesday night. We barely get daily updates from all the kids in the rush to have family dinner before we split our different directions. Until tomorrow, or whenever I get back.

Welcome

The current Herr Family started in 1993, now consisting of Rob, Jennifer, Sharlean, Shyann, Pryce, Trebor, Eliel, and Jaden.
And now here we are, midway through 2008, Sharlean going to Moorpark College, Shyann is living in Arizona with her Husband, Pryce is on the Volleyball Team for Royal, Trebor playing drums, Eliel guitar and skateboarding, and Jaden (rather, Captain Jack Sparrow).
I won't try to summarize the past 15 years in a neat little paragraph, nor expound it into tedium. Suffice it to say that we had great beginnings, and continue on into a bright future...
Everyone (except Jaden, unless you want to see "kmdctrfg fdkm.rf k, dc c, rftm," meaning that he was told not to throw his trash next to his bed, or pee outside) can add to this blog so we'll see how it all goes. I will probably be the only one adding to it anyhow!
